As I prepared for a small RV trip today, I recollected how most investors talk about your car not being a asset but a depreciating value. I normally agree on some levels, as many also argue that a home is not really an asset because it cost money to run.
I digress with another topic…..It’s funny because post 9/11 the news had a lot of talk of not having enough human assets on the ground to provide real intelligence about our enemies. I thought for a moment and realized that having, what we call human sources or confidential informants are sometimes critical to any investigations but they also cost money and sometimes a lot of money for just their information. So I ask this question…..can an asset be an asset even if it cost money?
Most say owning a RV only depreciates like a car which I agree in one context but I have come to realize its also a valuable asset to our family. Why? It allowed us to travel and experience things that we could never had done without it. Visiting places in this great country and sharing experiences with your kids and creating times of bonding is priceless. My family has been able to see so much in our travels that most kids or adults can never experience. To me, the RV is an incredible asset, just not a financial asset but a asset for life experience. My children have learned that the world doesn’t revolve around them, that there are many good people out there, patience and hard work and tenacity are necessary tools for life’s successes. The list goes on. So considering traveling with a RV or just a tent. Live life to the fullest. We don’t get to do it over. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner as there are many more trips planned in our future. My hopes are to share and inspire those who are on the fence, and revealing that traveling is a great family experience for any age.
